Accessibility statement

This website is run by Lorenzo Albanese, photographer (VAT no. 00985190941). I care that anyone can use it: including people who navigate by keyboard only, people using a screen reader, and people who need larger text or more contrast.

Why this page exists

I am not legally required to make this site accessible. Italy’s “Legge Stanca” applies to public bodies and to companies with an average turnover above 500 million euro; the European Accessibility Act applies to e-commerce and to a list of other services, and in any case exempts micro-enterprises. This is a portfolio site with a contact form, and mine is a sole proprietorship. I did the work anyway, because some of those defects were genuine bugs and because a site people cannot use is a badly built site.

Conformance status

This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. “Partially” because of the limitations listed below, which I state openly rather than hide.

What has been fixed

  • The keyboard focus indicator. This was the most serious defect: pressing Tab gave no visible sign of where you were, anywhere on the site. Every link, button and field now shows a clearly visible dark ring, with a double-ring variant where the background is a photograph or the black footer.
  • The contact form. Field focus relied on a pale gold border with far too little contrast; the border now turns dark. The name, email and phone fields tell the browser what they contain, so autofill works.
  • Gold as the only signal. The site’s warm gold looks good but is hard to read as text on white: wherever it carried meaning (link hover, active language, button text) it has been replaced with a darker shade that meets the contrast minimums. Where it is purely decorative it was left alone.
  • The mobile menu. The hamburger button now announces whether the panel is open or closed.
  • The language switcher. The IT/EN links now declare the language of the page they lead to, and the active language is no longer signalled by colour alone.

The accessibility panel

At the bottom left of every page there is a panel that lets you enlarge the text (up to 130%), raise the contrast, reduce motion, underline links and switch to a highly legible typeface. Your choices are stored in your browser and apply to later visits too.

The panel is written into the site itself: it is not one of those automatic overlays that promise accessibility in one line of code. Those do not make a site accessible and can actively interfere with screen readers. High contrast mode does not invert the photographs, for obvious reasons.

Known limitations

  • The home page slideshow advances on its own and has no pause button. It stops if your operating system has the “reduce motion” preference enabled, or if you turn on the same option in the panel.
  • The reviews on the Weddings page are images: a screen reader cannot read their text. The original reviews remain available on the public matrimonio.com profile.
  • The cookie banner is generated by a third-party plugin: a couple of its elements fall just below the contrast minimum and cannot be changed without modifying the plugin.
  • The cookie policy is available in Italian only.
